Craven County Schools Back-to-School Information

The summer days of fun in the sun, cooling off in the water, and enjoying delicious meals on the grill are some of the best memories made during this delightful season.  These days go by quickly as families start counting down for their child(ren) to return to the back-to-school schedule and routine. During the summer hiatus, principals, together with teachers and district staff, are working hard to plan for the best 2023-2024 school year.

This year, the first day of school for our Early College students is August 1st and the first day of school for our students following the traditional calendar is August 28th. Prior to the first day of school back-to-school orientation is planned for our students and families to learn more about the school, meet the staff, and interact with other families.

The 2023 Orientation Schedule is as follows:

  • Craven Early College- Thursday, July 27th 3-6 pm
  • Early College EAST- Friday, July 28th 1-5 pm
  • Traditional High Schools-Tuesday, August 22nd 5-7 pm
  • Middle Schools-Wednesday, August 23rd 3-6 pm
  • Elementary Schools-Thursday, August 24th 3-6 pm

All orientations are floating, which means you are welcome to stop by anytime during the scheduled time. The schools will be sharing additional information about these events, so be on the lookout for this important start to the new school year.

The school calendar is a great resource to keep on hand, so families are informed of holidays, teacher workdays, half days, and other pertinent information. The academic school calendars are also included on the Craven County School Website at www.cravenk12.org

Another one of the many joys of returning back to school is gathering new school supplies. Each school creates the school supply list for materials needed for a successful year. These lists can be found on the Craven County Schools website and on the school website. For families wanting to help support others in need of school supplies, don’t forget to stop by and visit Craven County Partners in Education Stuff the Bus Fundraiser on Saturday, August 19th from 10 am-2 pm at the Staples in New Bern. To learn more, visit CravenPartners.com
