Get to Know Summer Raines, West Craven High Salutatorian

West Craven High School is proud to introduce Summer Raines as the Class of 2023 Salutatorian. Summer decided to share a little about herself so you can get to know her better. Her story gives all a brief glimpse ofSummer why she is one of our remarkable, standout students.

“Hi, my name is Summer Raines and I am West Craven High School’s class of 2023 Salutatorian. In the fall, I will be attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where I will pursue an undergraduate degree in psychology. My future and career are things I have always dreamed of, but they feel so surreal as I now enter a new chapter of my life. After many years of college, where I will hopefully obtain my bachelor's and doctoral degrees, I will seek a psychologist job locally. My passion for psychology has been with me for many years. This dream of becoming a psychologist has stemmed from experiencing mental health issues on a personal level, as well as seeing many others being affected by declining emotional health. There is a common disregard for psychology in society, so I hope to expand the knowledge within the field as well as bring attention to how serious mental health and help those who need it. While I wish to become a successful psychologist, my main aspiration for my future career is to help at least one person by allowing them to understand their brain functions and giving them someone to trust. It was West Craven High School that provided me with the resources and support necessary to reach my goals, as well as my family who provided support and motivation to move forward. In the next decade, I hope to return home to my hometown, Vanceboro, as a successful and licensed psychologist and a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill. Go Heels!

Congratulations on your accomplishments Miss Raines and we look forward to hearing more about your future success.
