Craven County Schools Celebrates Academic Growth Based on 2021-2022 School Performance Results

Additional school performance data released by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction shows that six of our elementary schools rank in the top 20% of the state's 2,532 schools for academic growth.

Congratulations to the following on this achievement:

  • AH Bangert Elementary School
  • Brinson Memorial Elementary School
  • James W Smith Elementary School
  • WJ Gurganus Elementary School
  • Vanceboro Farm Life Elementary School
  • Arthur W Edwards Elementary School

We are extremely proud of our ten schools, which exceeded growth.

Academic growth is an indication of the progress that students in the school made over the previous year. The standard is roughly equivalent to a year’s worth of growth for a year of instruction. Growth is reported for each school as 1) Exceeded Growth Expectations, 2) Met Growth Expectations, or 3) Did Not Meet Growth Expectations as measured by EVAAS, a statistical tool North Carolina uses to measure student growth when common assessments are administered.

Please see the table below on the academic growth for all of our schools:
