New Bern High spotlights Exceptional Children's Department

On October 31, 2018, the Craven County Board of Education and New Bern High spotlighted the Exceptional Children’s Program (ECP) Department.  Hard work, persistence, and confidence prove a label is only a means of receiving the tools and resources needed to meet maximum success. This team of educators at New Bern High School recognizes this daily in their interactions with students throughout the school.  These educators wear many hats. They work with students who may be facing a wide variety of academic, physical, mental, or behavioral challenges. These educators serve as mentors as they help students develop life skills that will help them succeed each year in school and beyond. They are collaborators as they work with administration, parents, students, teachers, other support staff, and community organizations to develop education plans to meet the unique needs of learners.

Whether a child spends an hour a day in the inclusion classroom, 3 periods in the OCS room, or all day in a specialized classroom, special education teachers have the training, dedication and compassion to help our children become the best version of themselves that they can be. The whole world benefits from our kids becoming the best they can be and its special education teachers who go the extra mile to make sure this happens. Thank you. The Board of Education appreciates you and recognizes all that you are doing to help make a difference in the lives of your students.
