Craven County Schools recently recognized two outstanding West Craven High School Eagles whose accomplishments extend beyond athletic competition and into the classroom, their school, and the community.

Superintendent Dr. Matthew Cheeseman visited West Craven High School to recognize Xavier Cuthbertson, a member of the Eagles football team, and Carlee Stilley, a member of the Eagles volleyball team, as the Craven County Schools September Student-Athletes of the Month.

The recognition celebrates student-athletes who demonstrate excellence in competition while also exemplifying leadership, academic commitment, strong character, and service to others.

Xavier Cuthbertson — Football

Xavier has established himself as an exceptional student-athlete and leader for the West Craven Eagles.

Recognized as one of the area’s explosive football players, Xavier’s performance on the field has earned him several NCAA Division I offers. His success as an athlete, however, represents only one part of his accomplishments.

Xavier also maintains a high GPA and has earned praise for his work and dedication in the classroom, demonstrating his commitment to being a student first and an athlete second.

As a team captain, Xavier leads by example and sets high expectations for himself and those around him. His combination of athletic ability, academic achievement, and leadership makes him a strong representative of West Craven High School and Craven County Schools.

Carlee Stilley — Volleyball

A senior middle blocker, three-year varsity starter, and team captain, Carlee has made a lasting impact on the West Craven High School volleyball program through her leadership, competitiveness, and dedication to her teammates.

Her accomplishments extend well beyond the volleyball court. Carlee ranks among the top 25 students academically in the Class of 2027, balancing the demands of varsity athletics with a strong commitment to her education.

She has also made service to others an important part of her high school experience. Carlee volunteers with elementary and middle school students through reading days, field days, mentoring opportunities, and other activities.

Through her service, leadership, and willingness to invest in younger students, Carlee has demonstrated what it means to use her influence as a student-athlete to make a positive difference in her community.

Her legacy at West Craven High School will be defined not only by what she accomplished on the volleyball court, but also by the way she cared for, served, and led others.

Celebrating the Complete Student-Athlete

The Craven County Schools Student-Athlete of the Month recognition highlights students who understand that representing their school extends beyond what happens during competition. Leadership, academics, character, service, and commitment to teammates are all part of what it means to be a student-athlete.

Xavier and Carlee demonstrate those qualities in different ways while setting strong examples for their teammates and fellow students.

Congratulations to Xavier Cuthbertson and Carlee Stilley on being named the Craven County Schools September Student-Athletes of the Month. Craven County Schools is proud of the way these two Eagles compete, lead, serve, and represent West Craven High School.
