True Colors: School Nurses and Social Workers Learn More About Themselves and Each Other

A group of school nurses in a professional development learning session.

Understanding ourselves and the people we work alongside is an important part of building strong teams and meaningful relationships.

Craven County Schools nurses and social workers recently participated in an engaging professional learning session centered on the True Colors Personality Test, led by Jennifer Davis, CCS Career and Technical Education (CTE) Coordinator.

The interactive session gave participants an opportunity to discover their individual “colors” while exploring the different personalities, strengths, communication styles, and perspectives people bring to a team.

Throughout the session, nurses and social workers learned more about the characteristics associated with each of the four colors and considered how those differences can influence the ways individuals communicate, collaborate, approach challenges, and interact with others.

And one thing quickly became clear—all four colors were well represented in the room!

Beyond learning more about themselves, participants explored how a better understanding of different personality and communication styles can strengthen relationships with colleagues and the students, staff, and families they serve.

For school nurses and social workers, building relationships and communicating effectively are essential parts of their work. Each day, these professionals interact with individuals who have different needs, experiences and ways of communicating. Recognizing and appreciating those differences can help strengthen connections, encourage collaboration, and support more effective communication.

The session also provided an opportunity for nurses and social workers from across Craven County Schools to spend time together, share experiences, and build connections with colleagues who serve in similar roles throughout the district.

Craven County Schools appreciates Jennifer Davis for leading this meaningful professional learning opportunity and thanks our school nurses and social workers for their continued commitment to learning and growing.

We hope they left the session with a little more insight into themselves, a greater understanding of one another, and new strategies they can use as they continue supporting our students, staff, and families each day.
