August 24 marked an exciting milestone for Craven County Schools as students at our traditional schools returned to classrooms for the first day of the 2026–2027 school year.

From the moment students arrived, schools across the district were filled with the unmistakable energy of a new beginning. Smiles, hugs, laughter, first-day photos, and plenty of excitement filled classrooms and hallways as students, staff, and families came together to kick off another year of learning.

Teachers and staff were excited to welcome students back into their classrooms, reconnect with returning students, meet new faces, and begin building the relationships that will help make the year successful.

The first day of school is always a special occasion. It represents a fresh start filled with new opportunities to learn, grow, build friendships, overcome challenges, and create memories that will last well beyond the school year.

Even a downpour during dismissal could not dampen the excitement of a wonderful first day!

Craven County Schools extends its appreciation to our dedicated staff members and families who helped make the opening of school a success. From preparing classrooms and campuses to helping students navigate their first day, countless individuals worked together to ensure students received a warm welcome.

With day one officially in the books, Craven County Schools is off to a GREAT start!

We look forward to an incredible 2026–2027 school year filled with learning, growth, achievement, and memorable moments for our students, staff, and families.
