The Perfect Finale to Arts in Education Week: CCS Art Educators Learn and Collaborate

Craven County Schools wrapped up Arts in Education Week with an opportunity for art educators from across the district to come together, collaborate, and strengthen arts instruction for students.

On Friday, September 18, CCS art educators gathered at H.J. MacDonald Middle School for professional learning focused on the vertical alignment of arts instruction across grade levels.

The districtwide session provided educators with dedicated time to explore their new standards and examine how instruction at each grade level builds upon the skills and knowledge students have already developed. By looking closely at the connections between grade bands, teachers worked to strengthen transitions and help ensure students are prepared for the next level of arts coursework.

Led by the district’s three Arts leads in collaboration with Student Programming, the professional learning encouraged educators to share ideas, examine instructional practices, and bring greater cohesion to planning across schools and grade levels.

The time together also gave the team an opportunity to look ahead to the school year and discuss collaborative shows and events that will showcase student creativity and bring together arts programs from across Craven County Schools.

Professional learning and collaboration among arts educators help create more consistent and connected experiences for students as they progress through elementary, middle, and high school. These opportunities also allow teachers to learn from one another, share successful practices, and collectively strengthen arts education throughout the district.

Ending Arts in Education Week with educators working together to strengthen opportunities for students was a fitting celebration of the important role the arts play in our schools.

Craven County Schools appreciates our art educators for sharing their creativity, expertise, and passion with students each day and for continuing to learn and grow together.
