Staff Workday Provides Dedicated Professional Learning for School Counselors

A groupf of school counselors in a board room learning about community partnership.

While students enjoyed a day away from the classroom, Craven County Schools counselors used the district’s recent staff workday as an opportunity to learn, collaborate, and strengthen the resources they use to support students and families.

School counselors from across the district came together for professional learning focused on topics directly connected to their work and the evolving needs of their school communities.

The day included learning around legal considerations related to custody orders, strengthening the transition between elementary and middle school counseling programs, and the importance of developing strong community partnerships to connect students and families with additional resources and support.

The professional learning also provided counselors with valuable time to connect with colleagues across schools, exchange ideas, and discuss strategies that can be applied in their daily work with students.

Collaboration is especially important for school counselors, whose roles often require them to help students navigate academic, social, and emotional needs while also working closely with families, educators, administrators, and community partners. Opportunities to learn together allow counselors to share experiences, strengthen practices, and expand the tools available to help students succeed.

The focus on transitions between elementary and middle school also highlighted the importance of continuity as students move from one stage of their educational journey to the next. By strengthening communication and collaboration among counselors, schools can help students and families feel better supported as they navigate these important transitions.

Craven County Schools is grateful for its dedicated school counselors and their commitment to continued professional growth. Their willingness to learn, collaborate, and prepare helps ensure they are ready to meet the needs of the students, staff, and families they serve each day.

Thank you to our counselors for using this dedicated time to learn, grow, and strengthen the support provided throughout Craven County Schools.
