On October 28, 2024a heartfelt ceremony was held at the West Craven High Performing Arts Center to honor the legacy of Mr. Michael Averette, a cherished figure in the community and former Board Member. Attended by both current and past board members, school and district staff, as well as community members, the event celebrated Mr. Averette’s significant contributions to the West Side.

The performing arts center, a cornerstone of the community, serves as a venue for theatre and band performances, special ceremonies, award recognitions, meetings, graduations, and many other important events. The gathering was a reminder of the center's vital role in enriching the lives of students, staff, and residents alike.

The Board of Education was commended for its visionary decision in 2007, which transformed the dream of a dedicated performing arts space into a reality. Attendees reflected on Mr. Averette’s unwavering commitment to education and the arts, ensuring that the center remains a place of creativity and inspiration for future generations.
