New Board of Education Members Sworn In During Official Oath of Office Special Called Meeting
Four newly elected Board of Education members were sworn in during a Special Called Meeting on December 2, 2024. The ceremony marked the beginning of their service to the school district, as they took their Oath of Office in front of an engaged audience of community members and fellow educators.
The following new members were welcomed after taking their Oath of Office:
- Amy Davis, District 5
- Darlene Gibbs, District 7
- Patti Mason, District 1
- Lori Spiece, District 3
New Bern Mayor Jeffrey Odham swore in Board Member Amy Davis, while Lexanne Huffman, Clerk of Superior Court for Craven County, swore in the other new members. The ceremony was a momentous occasion, reflecting the community's support and trust in their new leaders.
Following the swearing-in, the Board of Education held an organizational meeting, at which Scott Murphy was elected Chairman and Patti Mason was chosen Vice Chairman.
“We are excited to begin this journey with our newest members,” said Board Chairman Scott Murphy. “Together, we will work to continue advancing the success of our students and ensuring a strong, unified educational system for all.”
The meeting concluded with gratitude for all those in attendance and a renewed commitment to the district’s mission of providing a high-quality education to each and every student. The Board is eager to work with the new members as they begin their terms and looks forward to a productive and impactful year ahead.
