New Bern High School Beta Club/Beta Members Compete at National Beta Convention

National Beta members from New Bern High School recently participated in the 2026 National Beta Convention held at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Students joined thousands of Beta members from across the United States to celebrate academic achievement, leadership, character, and service while competing in a variety of national competitions. During the convention, members from New Bern High School earned recognition in the following academic events:
- 11th Grade Agriscience - National Champion – Maggie Harris
- 10th Grade Biomedical – 3rd Place - Samantha Saenez
- 10th Grade Math – 8th Place – Magdalene Deng
In addition, the engineering team made up of Maggie Harris, Ian Miller, Evan Miller, Titus Rhyne, and Reece Zachewicz attended and competed at the convention. The club was also awarded the School of Merit and School of Distinction Chapter Awards for 2025-2026.
National Convention provides opportunities for students in grades 4-12 to showcase their talents through individual and team competitions, leadership experiences, service initiatives, networking opportunities, and educational programming. The annual event brings together top-performing students who have advanced through state conventions and earned the opportunity to compete on the national stage.
The 2026 National Beta Convention, themed "Wired for Success," welcomed thousands of attendees for a week of competition, celebration, and student achievement.
Kristal Harris, club sponsor, said, “Watching our Beta students compete at the National Convention is one of the greatest rewards of being a sponsor. Their hard work, dedication, and courage to represent our school on a national stage make me proud every single day.”
New Bern High School’s Beta Club was chartered in 2024 and started with 40 members. In the past two years, six students have placed and competed at the state and national level. The club currently has approximately 80 members and participates in school-wide and community service projects during the school year. Students have the opportunity to compete in academic tests, visual arts, and team events.
With more than 500,000 active members and 14,000 clubs nationally and internationally, National Beta has become the nation’s largest independent, non-profit, educational youth organization.
