Honoring Our Roots in Education

Vanceboro Farm Life School Historical Marker. Linda Thomas in front of sign.

On Thursday, June 12, a North Carolina Highway Historical Marker was proudly placed in Vanceboro to recognize the historic Farm Life School, which opened its doors in 1913.

This recognition was made possible by Mrs. Linda Thomas, former Craven County Schools Board Member, who submitted the marker request in honor of the school's legacy. Farm Life School played a vital role in education focused on agriculture and homemaking, serving as a model for communities across the state.

Not only was the marker approved through a rigorous process, but Vanceboro now stands as the official site honoring all Farm Life Schools in North Carolina. A true testament to our region’s lasting impact on education!
