Highlights from the Class of 2024
Craven County Schools Celebrates Jacob Faucett
Craven County Schools, together with Early College EAST, is thrilled to recognize one of our outstanding 2023-2024 graduates, Jacob Faucett. Jacob's journey through high school was marked by exceptional academic and civic excellence, culminating in him graduating at the top of his class. In just four years, he earned both his high school diploma and an Associate in Science degree. This fall, Jacob will be attending Cornell University, where he plans to major in mechanical engineering.
Jacob's academic prowess is reflected in the impressive $710,500 in scholarships he earned. These include prestigious awards such as the State Employees Credit Union People Helping People Scholarship, the New Bern Elks Lodge Scholarship, and several university-specific scholarships from institutions like Western Carolina University, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
Beyond academics, Jacob was a vital part of both the high school and community college communities. At Craven Community College, he was an active member of Phi Theta Kappa. At Early College EAST, he participated in numerous clubs, including the National Honor Society, Cooking Club, and Sports Club. In his senior year, Jacob played a key role in establishing the ECE Interact Club. Collaborating with Havelock Rotary Club’s President, Lou Balogh, Jacob ensured the club met all organizational requirements. As the club’s president, he led his peers in organizing charitable and educational events, such as food drives for the Havelock Cherry Point Ministerial Outreach Food Pantry and a school-wide Chinese New Year Celebration.
Jacob's commitment to improving the world around him began at an early age. One of his fondest school memories is participating in a walk-a-thon to support the construction of a well in Africa, ensuring children in Uganda wouldn't have to carry water long distances. He vividly recalls carrying an 8-pound gallon of water around the school track in 2nd grade, an experience that deepened his appreciation for the challenges others face daily.
We proudly celebrate Jacob’s remarkable achievements and wish him the best as he embarks on his future endeavors at Cornell University. Jacob Faucett's story is a testament to the impact of dedication, community spirit, and academic excellence.
