Guest Readers Inspire a Love for Reading During Read Across America
Elementary schools recently celebrated Read Across America, an event that is dedicated to fostering a love for reading through engaging activities and special guest readers. Community members, local leaders, and volunteers visited classrooms to share their favorite books, making a lasting impact on students’ enthusiasm for literacy.
“The students light up when they have a guest reader in the room,” said Angie Franks, Principal of Creekside Elementary School. “It brings stories to life in a way that makes reading even more exciting.”
In addition to guest readers, schools incorporated themed dress-up days to encourage engagement with books and storytelling. Themes varied throughout the week, bringing creativity and fun into the classrooms. Some favorites included:
- Favorite Book Character Day – Students dressed as beloved literary characters.
- Reading Never Gets Old – Children arrived in outfits inspired by senior citizens.
- Wear a Silly Outfit – A wacky wardrobe matched the theme of silly books.
- Favorite Day – Students read their favorite books while wearing their favorite colors.
By combining interactive reading experiences with creative expression, Read Across America continues to inspire students and remind them that books open the door to endless adventures.
