Graham A. Barden Students Bring History to Life with Black History Month Wax Museum

Students at Graham A. Barden Elementary School recently stepped into the roles of influential leaders as part of a Black History Month Wax Museum, transforming their school into a living, interactive learning experience.

During the event, students researched and portrayed notable Black leaders from both the past and present. Dressed as their chosen historical figures, students stood ready to share facts, stories, and accomplishments as guests walked through the museum path. With each stop, visitors gained insight into the lives and contributions of leaders who have made a lasting impact on history and society.

The interactive format allowed students to go beyond reading about history in textbooks. By presenting their research and speaking about their chosen figures, students strengthened their understanding of history while developing confidence in public speaking and storytelling.

Families, staff, and visitors were invited to experience the living museum, where students proudly shared what they had learned. Each presentation highlighted the importance of leadership, perseverance, and the contributions of Black Americans throughout history.

The Wax Museum served as a meaningful tribute to Black History Month, giving students the opportunity to celebrate important historical figures while demonstrating their creativity, research skills, and passion for learning.

Events like this showcase how Craven County Schools encourages students to explore history in engaging ways that make learning memorable and impactful.
