A great school year starts with great leadership, and Craven County Schools leaders are energized, prepared, and ready for the year ahead.

On August 12, principals and assistant principals came together for a day of professional learning, collaboration, reflection, and preparation alongside the District Senior Leadership Team, Curriculum and Instruction Team, district directors, and coordinators.

The leadership meeting strengthened connections, aligned priorities, and reinforced the shared commitment to making the 2026–2027 school year exceptional for students, staff, and schools across the district.

Superintendent Dr. Cheeseman helped set the tone for the year by sharing his expectations for district leaders and emphasizing an important message: take care of yourself and your team.

That message reinforced the important role school leaders play not only in supporting student success but also in building strong, positive school communities where staff members feel supported and equipped to do their best work.

Craven County Schools also extends its appreciation to the Board of Education members for their continued partnership and support of district and school leadership.

With a renewed sense of purpose and a shared vision for the future, district leaders are ready to put their learning and collaboration into action throughout the new school year.

As we keep our eyes on the future, we know it will be a great year. Here’s to an exceptional 2026–2027 school year!
