Craven County Schools concluded this year’s Farm to School Week with a special luncheon that brought together local farmers, elected officials, community leaders, and district partners to celebrate the importance of supporting local agriculture and student nutrition.

The event served as both a celebration and a collaborative conversation focused on strengthening partnerships that help provide students with fresh, locally sourced foods while supporting the region’s agricultural community.

Guests enjoyed a delicious meal that mirrored many of the menu items served to students throughout the week. The luncheon featured a variety of locally sourced foods, including beef tips, brisket, blackened flounder, strawberries, jerk chicken, collards, sweet potatoes, and more, highlighting the quality and diversity of products grown and produced in Eastern North Carolina.

The district extends its sincere appreciation to Craven County Farm Bureau for sponsoring the luncheon and helping make the event possible.

Attendees also heard remarks from Mr. Jason Jones, President of the Craven County Farm Bureau, who emphasized the importance of supporting local farmers and advocating for agriculture in the community. His message reinforced the value of collaboration between schools, farmers, businesses, and community organizations in creating opportunities for students and families.

A special highlight of the event was a generous donation from the Greenbrier Angels, who contributed more than $5,000 to the School Nutrition Fund. Their support helped ensure that every student had access to meals throughout Farm to School Week.

The district is incredibly grateful to the many local farms, businesses, and community partners who helped make the week such a success, including B&J Seafood, McCoy Cattle Farm, Tidewater Grain, Bridgeton Poultry, Working Landscapes, Burch Farms, White’s Farm, La Farm Bakery, and Carolina Ground.

Farm to School Week provided students across the district with meaningful opportunities to learn about agriculture, nutrition, and the importance of supporting local food systems while enjoying fresh, nutritious meals prepared with locally sourced ingredients.
