Craven County Schools Hosts Veterans Day Events to Honor Local Veterans
For Veterans Day, Craven County Schools held a series of special events across the district to honor the brave men and women who have served in the U.S. military. These events were designed to foster a greater understanding of the sacrifices made by veterans while also offering students, staff, and the community an opportunity to show their appreciation.
Throughout the district, schools hosted Veterans Day parades, special events, and classroom activities that focused on the importance of this national observance. Students had the chance to interact with local veterans, hear their stories, and learn about the history and significance of Veterans Day.
“We are proud to honor the service and sacrifice of our veterans, both past and present, who have dedicated their lives to defending our freedoms,” said Dr. Wendy Miller, Superintendent. “These events are not just a way for us to say ‘thank you,’ but also an opportunity to educate our students about the bravery veterans display daily.”
Key highlights of Veterans Day events across Craven County Schools included:
- Veterans Day Parades: Schools hosted parades featuring marching bands, ROTC units, and local veterans, allowing the families to join in the celebration and pay their respects.
- Guest Speakers and Events: Local veterans spoke to students about their military experiences and shared the importance of service and sacrifice.
- Classroom Activities: Students engaged in various activities, including writing letters, creating artwork, and learning about the history of Veterans Day through hands-on projects.
“We are honored to be able to provide our students with these opportunities to learn about the sacrifices made by veterans and to be involved in activities that show our gratitude,” said Jodi Scoggins, Military Liasion Counselor. “This is a time for us to come together as a community to express our appreciation for the service and sacrifices of our military heroes.”
