Craven County Schools recently celebrated an unforgettable evening of appreciation, reflection, and gratitude during the 2026 Retirement Banquet, honoring the incredible retirees whose dedication and service have made a lasting impact across the district.

This year, the district recognized 60 retirees representing an extraordinary combined total of 1,356 years of service to students, schools, and the Craven County community. The event served as a heartfelt tribute to the commitment, passion, and countless contributions these individuals have made throughout their careers.

Each retiree was recognized with a certificate and a personalized yard sign to commemorate this important milestone and celebrate their years of dedication to public education.

A special congratulations was extended to Mrs. Missy Murphy, who was presented with the district’s traditional rocking chair in recognition of her remarkable 35 years of service. Her dedication and commitment exemplify the lasting difference educators and staff members make in the lives of students and colleagues alike.

Throughout the evening, retirees were celebrated for the countless hours, challenges, successes, and meaningful moments they experienced while serving Craven County Schools. Their impact extends far beyond classrooms and offices, helping shape generations of students and strengthening the entire school community.

The district extends sincere appreciation to members of the Board of Education for attending the celebration, as well as to Dr. Cheeseman, Superintendent, for sharing inspiring words of gratitude and encouragement. Special thanks also go to Board Chairman Mr. Lee Kirkman, whose touching closing story captured the spirit and emotion of the evening.

Craven County Schools Human Resources Department was also recognized for organizing a meaningful and memorable event that honored the remarkable careers and legacies of the district’s retirees.

As these dedicated individuals begin a new chapter filled with opportunities and adventures, Craven County Schools proudly reminds them that they will always remain part of the CCS Family.
