Craven County Schools Celebrate Inclusion and Achievement at 2025 Special Olympics
Craven County Schools proudly hosted the 2025 Special Olympics at Havelock High School’s Sasser Field on Thursday, April 10, 2025. Nearly 300 student-athletes from across the district competed in a day filled with inspiration, energy, and celebration.
The event brought together 290 student-athletes from 20 schools, all of whom demonstrated incredible perseverance, sportsmanship, and unity. From the Parade of Athletes to the day's final competition, every moment was a powerful reminder of what students can achieve when supported by a caring community.
“Our athletes truly embodied the spirit of the Special Olympics,” said Amber Gover, Director of Exceptional Children. “Their determination and joy were matched only by the overwhelming support from families, volunteers, and staff who made this event a success.”
The stands were filled with enthusiastic spectators who came together to celebrate the talents and achievements of every participant. Volunteers and school personnel worked tirelessly to ensure that the event ran smoothly, providing an inclusive, encouraging atmosphere for all.
Craven County Schools extends a heartfelt thank you to all who contributed, especially the incredible volunteers, dedicated staff, supportive families, and spirited community members. Their presence and passion made this an unforgettable celebration of ability and inclusion.
