Craven County Schools Announces Resignation of Board Chairman, Mr. Scott Murphy


Craven County Schools announces that Mr. Scott Murphy, Chairman of the Board of Education and District 2 representative, has officially resigned from his position effective Monday, February 10, 2025. Mr. Murphy’s decision marks the conclusion of his dedicated service to the students, staff, and families of Craven County.


A native of Cove City and a proud graduate of Craven County Schools, Mr. Murphy has been a passionate advocate for public education throughout his two-year tenure.  His commitment to teamwork, teacher recruitment, and student success has left a lasting impact on the district.


Mr. Murphy’s contributions extend beyond the boardroom; he has been deeply involved in disaster recovery efforts and community rebuilding projects, showcasing his compassion and dedication to serving others. His leadership during critical moments, including his work following Hurricane Florence, exemplifies his commitment to making a difference.


While his resignation was disappointing, the school district respects Mr. Murphy’s decision and thanks him for his service to Craven County Schools. His legacy of leadership and dedication will continue to inspire our district as we move forward.

The Board of Education will meet during the Board Work Session on Tuesday, February 18, 2025,  to discuss the next steps regarding this vacancy. The Board of Education remains committed to supporting the success of all students and schools.
