Craven County Schools 5th Graders Launch Into STEM Learning at STARBASE Cherry Point

RBAStarbase2

Craven County Schools is proud to partner with STARBASE Cherry Point to provide 5th-grade students across 5 Havelock elementary schools with an exciting, hands-on STEM experience.

Located at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point in Havelock, STARBASE is a Department of Defense educational program focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Notably, STARBASE Cherry Point is the first program of its kind located on a Marine Corps installation, making this opportunity especially meaningful for our military-connected community.

Throughout the program, students engage in interactive, project-based learning experiences designed to strengthen critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and real-world application of STEM concepts. Lessons are aligned with academic standards and incorporate engineering challenges, technology integration, and exposure to potential STEM careers.

Inside the STARBASE classrooms, learning comes to life. Students design, build, test, and collaborate, applying math and science concepts in creative and innovative ways. The program encourages curiosity, perseverance, and confidence as students explore how STEM connects to future career pathways.

Beyond academics, STARBASE helps students develop valuable life skills, including communication, collaboration, and resilience. The experience also introduces students to the importance of leadership and service, reinforcing positive character development.

We are grateful for our partnership with STARBASE Cherry Point and the dedicated instructors who make this impactful learning opportunity possible. Programs like STARBASE reflect Craven County Schools commitment to providing engaging, future-focused experiences that prepare students for success in middle school, high school, and beyond.

Through partnerships like this, we continue to expand opportunities for our students, inspiring them to dream big, think critically, and explore the possibilities of STEM.
