Craven County Schools counselors came together on August 17 to reconnect, collaborate, and prepare for another year of supporting students, families, and schools across the district.

Assistant Superintendent for Student Services Dr. Boone welcomed counselors back for the 2026–2027 school year with a kickoff meeting filled with important information, professional learning, and opportunities to connect with colleagues.

Superintendent Dr. Cheeseman also joined the meeting to share his insights, experiences, and expectations for the year ahead. His conversation with the group gave counselors additional perspective as they prepare to support students and families and communicate the district’s priorities throughout their school communities.

School counselors play an essential role in helping students succeed. Through academic guidance, social and emotional support, college and career preparation, and connections with families and school staff, counselors help create environments where students can learn, grow, and thrive.

The kickoff meeting also gave counselors from across the district a chance to learn from one another, strengthen relationships, and begin the year with a shared commitment to serving students.

Craven County Schools is grateful for the dedication, compassion, and expertise our counselors bring to their schools each day.

Here’s to a fantastic 2026–2027 school year filled with teaching, learning, growing, and working together!
