Ben D. Quinn’s 4th Grade Hosts Successful 3rd Annual Caring for Cancer Event

BDQ Caring For Cancer

Ben D. Quinn Elementary School’s fourth-grade students made a meaningful impact in their community by hosting the 3rd Annual Caring for Cancer Event on Thursday, March 6th.

This special event was designed to teach students the importance of compassion, empathy, and community service while providing comfort to cancer patients at the local cancer center. During the event, students assembled care packages filled with comforting self-care items to support those undergoing treatment.

The project held deep significance for the Ben D. Quinn (BDQ) community. It was dedicated in honor of Lynn Barnhill, a beloved BDQ fourth-grade teacher who lost her courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Barnhill remained dedicated to her students throughout her treatments, inspiring staff, students, and families.

Through thoughtful discussions and planning, students identified essential comfort items, calculated costs, and successfully raised over $1,000 through DonorsChoose to fund the initiative. Their efforts reflected the school's commitment to fostering compassionate and empathetic students who actively serve their communities.

The event was a touching display of kindness and generosity, and the students’ hard work was met with appreciation from the community. Ben D. Quinn Elementary thanks all who contributed and supported this meaningful initiative.
