Arthur Edwards Elementary Students Participate in Leader in Me Leadership Day

AWELeadershipDay1

On Friday, February 20, 2026, Arthur Edwards Elementary School engaged in a celebration of student achievements. Leader in Me is an initiative that helps foster student leadership skills and personal responsibility through the 7 Habits: Be Proactive, Begin with the End in Mind, Put First Things First, Think Win-Win, Seek First to Understand/Then to be Understood, Synergize, and Sharpen the Saw.

As part of this schoolwide approach to student success, Leadership Day is an opportunity for students to share their progress towards personal and academic goals with their families. Each student has a data notebook that contains their achievements throughout their years in elementary school. Students also create and share a presentation about Leader In Me that helps to build their speaking and presentation skills.

“Leadership Days are a wonderful opportunity for parents to actively participate in their child’s educational journey,” said Melisa Thompson, principal. “I have found that students, families, and teachers alike experience great joy throughout this special day. The event also helps parents gain a deeper understanding of the 7 Habits and how they are integrated into daily learning and goal setting.… This extends the learning beyond the classroom and strengthens the partnership between school and home as families set and achieve goals collaboratively.”

Each grade level held presentations at different times to allow families the opportunity to attend multiple Leadership Day Presentations.

Craven County Schools is proud of our AWE student leaders!
