Approaching Deadline for Immunizations and Health Assessments

Graphic that says "a message from our district lead nurse"

We are quickly approaching the September 24th deadline for all students in K-12 (traditional students).  If those students have not met the requirements for immunizations and/or Health Assessments, they cannot return to school on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. Having an appointment for a date after 9-24-24 does not prevent exclusion from school.

Below are the NC General Statutes that are required:

Immunization Law:

§ 130A-155. Submission of certificate to child care facility, preschool and school authorities; record maintenance; reporting.

Medical Exemption: § 130A-156. Medical exemption.

MEDICAL EXEMPTIONS FROM IMMUNIZATION: 10A NCAC 41A .0404

Religious Exemption: § 130A-157. Religious exemption.

NON-RELIGIOUS PERSONAL BELIEF NO EXEMPTION: 10A NCAC 41A .0403

Health Assessment Requirement (GS 130a-440):

· Medical exemptions require a form completed by the physician licensed to practice in NC.

· Religious exemptions can be a statement such as "It is against my religious beliefs to vaccinate my child,  (DOB x-x-xxxx)" and signed by the parent/guardian which includes a date. The statement cannot say "It is against my personal beliefs..."

More information on North Carolina’s requirements for vaccines can be found on the NCDHHS website.  For any questions about this please contact your child’s school nurse.
