Craven County Schools is excited about its long-standing partnership with Craven Community College and local industry businesses to host the 4th Annual Career On Wheels (C.O.W.) Fair, an engaging event for over 900 district 5th graders. This year’s fair fulfilled its promise of being an unforgettable experience as students explored a wide range of career opportunities in their community.

Research shows early career exposure can significantly influence students' awareness of potential career paths. By connecting their interests with various professions, students can foster curiosity, challenge stereotypes, and build confidence about their futures. Although choosing a career may seem distant for 5th graders, this event aimed to plant the seeds of possibility, helping students make connections between their strengths and passions and various careers.

Craven County Schools is always enthusiastic about promoting Career and Technical Education (CTE) as a fun and engaging learning avenue. By introducing students to CTE early on, we continuously encourage them to pursue these valuable classes as they transition to middle school.

“Our 5th-grade students are buzzing with excitement for this hands-on, interactive event,” said Holly Tolston, Director of CTE. “The C.O.W. Fair provides a unique opportunity for them to learn about and experience a variety of career options right here in Craven County. It truly is one of the highlights of their school year!”

The C.O.W. Fair enriches student's learning experiences and strengthens the partnership between education and local businesses, paving the way for future workforce development. Thank you to all who made this year's event a huge success. CTE is already planning next year's C.O.W. FAIR.
