From all of the faculty and staff at HMS, we hope this finds you safe and well. As you know, we are going to be out of school until at least May 15th and we want to take steps to minimize the loss of instructional time. See below on how you and your student can stay connected to good teaching and learning!
Online Activities and Lessons:
Beginning Monday, March 23, we are excited to provide online lessons that students can work on from home. Mondays through Thursdays there will be online lessons for students, Fridays there will be no online sessions. These lessons will be posted on the Canvas or Google Classroom that students normally use within their classrooms.
Live Class Sessions:
Teachers will be delivering LIVE instruction through a video conferencing program called “Zoom.” Each teacher will be “live” during a portion of the day, and then available by email and other electronic means the rest of the day. We understand that not all students will be able to attend the live sessions of direct instruction with their teachers; as such, we will record each session and post the videos to each class’ Canvas and/or Google Classroom page each day. We have provided a schedule of when live classes will be offered Monday-Thursday at HMS via email, postings on social media, and paper copies in the front office. In order to connect live in Zoom, each teacher will post a class-specific link on their Canvas or Google Classroom page; students will then click on that link for that class period/block for the live session during the scheduled time. (The first time the student clicks on ANY Zoom link for any class, they will be prompted on how to use and install the App and download.) Since this is a new adventure for all, help videos will be emailed and posted on social media, just in case there are any issues.
Teacher Office Hours:
Each day, Monday-Thursday, we will offer office hours from 3:00-3:30 where students and parents can call for any needed classroom support. Teacher contact numbers and emails are posted on social media, were emailed, and paper copies are available in the front office.
**Finally, if you do not have internet access, call the front office at 252-444-5125 and we will be happy to have paper/pencil packets for you.
