Degrees and Certifications:
BA in psychology MA in education
Welcome to our class website!! My name is Ginny York and this is my thirteenth year teaching. This will be my second year at Bangert and also my second year teaching 5th grade. I grew up in New Bern, but went to ECU for both my undergraduate and graduate degrees. I come from a family of teachers, so I have always been passionate about it. I have been married for eleven years and have two children. My son is 4 and my daughter is 7. I am very excited about this year and working with each and every student and parent! If you ever have any questions feel free to contact me via e-mail, school phone, or Seesaw at any time.
In order to keep you well informed, I will be using both Class DoJo (for behavior management) and Seesaw (to display student work and parent communication). Please download and sign up on these apps as soon as possible. Please know that the points on Class DoJo accumulate and do not reset each day. So if your child has +6 points and -1 point on Monday and then +10 points and -1 point on Tuesday, that means that your child did not lose any points on Tuesday (the -1 is the cumulative total lost until the points are reset), but that they gained 4 points on Tuesday. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me! Seesaw has a messaging feature that allows me to quickly respond to messages and also allows me to send out class announcemets and reminders. Class DoJo sends you an alert each time your child loses or gains points.
I will also send home a Tuesday folder every Tuesday with your child's graded papers from the week and any other important papers. Please sign and date the back of the folder (this allows me to quickly check to make sure parents saw the graded papers inside) and return on Wednesday.
I will keep you posted on important dates such as testing. In 5th grade, as you know we have the EOGs at the end of the year and quite a bit of testing throughout the year. Please make sure that before each testing day your child gets plenty of sleep and eats a good breakfast.
