Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Shirley Pearson
This is my first year of teaching at New Bern High school and I am very excited to be here.
I am from a small town in California. In 2013, I started my college journey and learned more about hard work and dedication than I ever had. Growing up I always played softball. Softball was my passion. Growing up I had a dream of going to college one day to play softball. Softball would be the only way I could afford to go to college. My freshman year, I didn't see the field much. My coach told me " I wasn't good enough to play at the college level." Yes, it hurt to hear that. But, I didn't let that stop me. I transferred schools and worked hard that summer. Finally, I was ready. Sophomore year I earned a starting position and my first at bat hit a homerun. At the end of the season, I received many phone calls from coaches about their program. I decided to stick with The University of Saint Mary, in Leavenworth Kansas. A small school, but perfect for me to fulfil my dream.
I graduated in 2016 from The University of Saint Mary with a Bachelor of arts in Psychology. After graduation I married my high school sweet heart and moved to New Bern North Carolina. My first two years in North Carolina I worked as the Program Coordinator at the Autism Society of Norrth Carolina, teach adults and children with Autism different skills, as well as, providing a safe and fun after school program and summer camp.
When I heard about a teaching position at New Bern High school I was very excited to apply and fulfilled my dream of becoming a teacher. I want to be able to show kids that they can do anything as long as they believe in them self. I also want to be that one teacher who is there to push them to become a successful young man or woman.
Welcome to my class. I hope you are ready for a fun and exciting year !
