Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! This year I will be one of your Title I teachers here at J.T. Barber Elementary. I will be working closely with your child’s regular education teacher to help your child reach his/her highest potential.
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you as well. My name is Barbara Walton. I have been teaching for seventeen years. I graduated in 1996 from Cheyney University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education. I received my Master's Degree in Education from Ashford University with a concentration in Early Childhood in the spring of 2011. I’ve wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember so this is my dream job! I love my job and hope to pass my love for learning on to my students. I feel very fortunate to be a part of the Craven County School District teaching staff.
I live in Havelock. I am married to my husband Joseph, who is a minister. I have one son, Chris who is a barber and one daughter, Chervon who is also a teacher in the Craven County School System. I am also raising my 14 years old grandson, Chris, who keeps me on my toes! In addition, to Chris I have three other grandchildren (Jeanna, Jillian, and Cameron), whom I also adore.
In my spare time, I enjoy reading, shopping, and spending time with my family and friends.
I am looking forward to getting to know all your children and now my children, too! If you ever have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact me at barbara.walton@cravenK12.org or 252-514-6460, Ext. 3015.
Promise to give your best.
It is common practice for us to ask students to give their best, be their best, demonstrate self-respect, and value learning. In a warm, welcoming classroom, however, teachers can also promise to give students their best. This can be as simple as, “I will work hard for you. I will push you to learn. I will require your best, and I will give you my best.”
