Degrees and Certifications:
East Carolina University Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education Concentration in Child Psychology Certification in Reading Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade
I have been teaching in North Carolina for 18 years. I have taught first - third grade. I love to teach reading and enjoy empowering little minds. I believe that children learn through engagement with others, play and with inquiry. I believe that children should use technology but there needs to be a balance with everything in their lives. Every child has something to offer. Two of my favorite quotes are: Every crayon makes a mark, no matter how small and "Be a rainbow in someone else's cloud." This quote is from Maya Angelo and my classroom is based off of rainbow colors around this quote.
I have 3 children of my own. My oldest, Ethan goes to Havelock High School and plays saxophone in the Marching Rams. My middle child, Evan is a 7th grader at Tucker Creek Middle School. Evan is playing trumpet in the middle school band. Eliana is my third grader at AWE and she takes ballet and lyrical dance classes at Down East Dance. We have 2 dogs (a Yellow Lab and a Great Pyrenees), we have three cats (two siamese mixes and a Ragdoll), and two rabbits. My husband is an aerospace engineer and works for FRC- East. He currently works on the Firescout.
I have lived in North Carolina my entire life in Bertie County. I enjoy teaching military children. I enjoy swimming, biking, reading professional books about learning, collecting, painting, and repairing old dolls. My daughter and I have many dollhouses for American Girl dolls. I also love photography and music. My favorite animal is a sloth. I have a collection of stuffed sloths.
