Meet Our Superintendent, Dr. Wendy Miller
Dr. Wendy Miller was officially named Superintendent of Craven County Schools on July 1, 2021. She has been a familiar face in Craven County for many years since she was born and raised in eastern North Carolina, committed 34 years of her career to the school system, and is a proud product of Craven County Schools! She has a compelling passion to see our students and staff excel since she desires to see her hometown community thrive. Dr. Miller believes a strong educational foundation contributes to the success of every student which creates the passion for our graduates to actively give back to those that have invested in them.
As a life-long learner dedicated to education, Dr. Miller received her Doctorate in Educational Leadership and her Master’s in School Administration from East Carolina University. She received her Undergraduate degree in Special Education from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She has presented at local, state, and national conferences on best practices to reach all learners, teacher recruitment and retention, leadership development and innovative classroom practices.
With many years of experience, Dr. Miller brings a wealth of knowledge with her to the superintendent position as she started her career as a special education teacher at the elementary and middle school levels for seventeen years. During this time, she was named the Craven County Schools Teacher of the Year and went on to be named the regional teacher of the year where she competed for the title of North Carolina Teacher of the Year and deservingly brought this title back to Craven County for the 2005-2006 school year. As the state teacher of the year, Dr. Miller worked closely with the State Board of Education to help make a difference in the classroom for educators and students. She utilizes these experiences to lead in our district to help empower all learners.
Dr. Miller also contributed her talents to teacher recruitment and retention in her roles in Human Resources as the Director and Assistant Superintendent. Dr. Miller served as the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resource Services for Craven County Schools for nine years. Her involvement with human resources helps brings a culture valuing people and a fresh understanding for the needs in our district.
With an intentional focus on excellence, Dr. Miller plans on embracing the current challenges in public education by working together with all stakeholders to build a supportive and productive culture which will ensure our students receive the best learning experiences. Focusing on success will help prepare our learners for a successful and bright future.
