Are you looking for a way to contribute to the community?

Consider mentoring a student, volunteering your time at a local school, connecting your business or community group with one of our Craven County schools, or donating to the school district. Individuals and businesses can volunteer to mentor students, and many mentors provide academic support and tutoring to their mentees.

Volunteers help in the classroom, library, with special events, and anywhere they are needed at all Craven County schools. To get started, contact the school nearest you and offer your services. All volunteers must pass a background check.

If you pass the background check, you will receive a follow-up email for more information. If you do not pass the background check, you will receive a letter by mail notifying you of this along with various helpful resources.

Notification of Criminal Charges and Convictions While Volunteering

1. While volunteering, if an individual is charged with any violation of conditions used for
possible rejection of volunteer participation, he/she shall notify the Assistant Superintendent
of Human Resource Services within ONE business day listing the alleged charges and a
narrative of the circumstances surrounding the alleged charges. If the volunteer is
hospitalized or incarcerated, the volunteer shall notify the Assistant Superintendent of
Human Resource Services within two business days upon release from the medical center or
law enforcement detention center. Failure to do so may result in loss of volunteer privileges.

2. While volunteering, if an individual is convicted of any violation of conditions used for
possible rejection of volunteer participation, he/she shall notify the Assistant Superintendent
of Human Resource Services in writing within two business days and shall provide court
documentation detailing the disposition of the charges. Failure to do so shall result in the
dismissal of the individual as a volunteer with the school district.

Q: Do I need to complete a new application each year?
A: No, you only need to complete an application once. If you request to be removed from the volunteer roster you would need to complete another application to be put back on the volunteer roster.

Q: I am a student looking to volunteer for an event at one of the schools in my district. Do I need to complete a volunteer application?
A: Yes, we would need student volunteers to complete an application for security purposes.

Q: How do I update my information (name, phone number, email, etc.)?
