A valid email address is needed to receive confirmation that the request has been submitted and where you will receive the initial decision.
Release forms can be accessed by selecting the release form link or using the link above and complete the form. After completing the form it should be returned to Craven County Schools 3600 Trent Rd, New Bern NC 28562 Attention: Student Services.
How is Reassignment Determined?
School reassignments are granted based on CCS policy 4150. Many things will be taken into consideration when processing reassignment requests, such as discipline, attendance, tardies, and space at the requested school. Parents must provide their own transportation to and from school if on reassignment. Employees of Craven County Schools are able to have their children reassigned to be at their place of employment or the nearest school.
If a family moves during the school year and wishes for their child to finish the school year at their current school, they may also request reassignment.
Reassignments for the upcoming school year that are turned in according to the process and by the deadline of February 28, 2025 by 5:00 p.m. are evaluated by the Director of Student Support Services. The family will be notified by email regarding the initial decision.
If the request is denied, the family may then file a written appeal to the Superintendent for consideration within 5 business days. Additional information should be included in the appeal request not included on the initial reassignment request.
Once the appeal is reviewed by the Superintendent and a determination is made, a letter will be sent to the family. If the request is denied by the Superintendent, the family may then file an appeal to the Board of Education within 5 business days after receiving the notice of disapproval.
An appeal to the Board of Education will be heard by a panel of 2-3 Board members. At the Board hearing, the family may present additional information regarding their request. The panel will make the final decision and the determination letter will be mailed to the family.
Families who move into the Craven County School District after the deadline to request reassignment of February 28, 2025, will have 5 days from the date of enrollment to request a school reassignment. Opportunities for appeal will also be given for requests that are denied.
Families that Reside outside of Craven County (info for the 2025-2026 school year)

The fee for the 24-25 school year is $2,258.60. The tuition fee will be prorated for the time remaining in the school year and must be paid prior to the first day of school for that student.
