AVID
Mission
AVID’s mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing ALL students for college and career readiness and success in a global society.
AVID instructional methodologies are rooted in WICOR: writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading. Craven County Schools’ AVID programs align their instructional systems with AVID’s beliefs and methodologies using relational capacity, high expectations, layering on existing curricula, collaboration, inquiry, and organization.
Note: AVID Recruitment for high school begins in the early spring with middle school recruitment following. Please see individual school websites for more information about becoming an AVID Elective student.
The AVID College Readiness System in Craven County provides age/grade level appropriate scaffolded supports. These include but are not limited to: focused note taking, organization of materials, collaborative study groups, critical reading & writing skills, and social/emotional skills.
