School Based Physical Therapy

School based physical therapists are part of a team of professionals who work to help students with disabilities benefit from special education. Physical therapists focus on a student’s ability to physically access the educational environment.  Physical therapists may work directly with students to improve their motor skills or collaborate with other professionals and school staff to accommodate a child’s special physical needs in the classroom. Eligibility for school based physical therapy is determined by the IEP team after gathering information about a child’s functional abilities and physical development and relating that information to the child’s ability to access the educational environment.
