Craven County Schools Earns Cognia Systems Accreditation
Craven County Schools is proud to announce that it has officially earned Cognia® Systems Accreditation, a nationally recognized mark of quality for school systems committed to continuous improvement and student success. The official notification was received by the district on March 31, 2025, and is valid through June 30, 2031.
Cognia is a global, nonprofit organization that provides quality assurance for schools, districts, and education service providers. Earning Systems Accreditation signifies that Craven County Schools meets rigorous performance standards focused on effective leadership, equitable resource allocation, and supportive learning environments.
“Accreditation as conferred by the Cognia Global Accreditation Commission provides Craven County Schools a nationally recognized mark of quality for our school system,” said the superintendent. “It demonstrates to our community our commitment to excellence, our willingness to enact meaningful change based on evaluation and feedback, and our desire to be the best we can be on behalf of the students we serve.”
To achieve this distinction, Craven County Schools underwent a comprehensive evaluation process that included both internal reflection and external review. The accreditation confirms that the district meets Cognia’s Performance Standards and is dedicated to ongoing growth and continuous improvement. Systems Accreditation is awarded for a six-year term to institutions that remain in good standing.
Dr. Mark A. Elgart, President and CEO of Cognia, commended the district’s efforts, stating, “Cognia Systems Accreditation is a rigorous process that focuses the entire school system and its community on the primary goal of ensuring all students can flourish in engaging and equitable learning environments. We commend Craven County Schools for meeting high standards and making progress on key indicators that impact student learning.”
Cognia serves more than 40,000 institutions across over 90 countries and is the parent organization of respected accrediting bodies, including the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI), Northwest Accreditation Commission (NWAC), and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI).
