About Us

Craven County Schools is dedicated to providing quality education for all children in kindergarten through 12th grade. The school system serves approximately 12,400 students with close to 1,550 committed employees ensuring that all receive the best learning opportunities possible. Our district is comprised of 26 schools: 15 elementary, 5 middle, 3 traditional and 2 early college high (there is a 13th grade for our "super seniors" who are in their last year at the early college high school working on completing their associates degree along with their high school diploma) and 1 virtual academy.

Our mission speaks to the commitment and dedication of our district’s focus on ensuring our students are prepared for the future: Together with OUR families and community, Craven County Schools will educate all learners to personal, professional, and civic success through challenging and personalized instruction.

Craven County Schools provides a comprehensive curriculum, to develop students who are career and college ready. Programs in Career & Technical Education, Arts Education, Athletics, Service Oriented Clubs and JROTC also provide students with opportunities for career development, leadership training, and personal growth. With the growing technology resources available to our students, educational experiences extend beyond the four walls of the classroom through expanded course offerings available through online courses and career
and college promise (CCP).   Career and College Promise Courses are offered tuition free through Craven  Community College, allowing students to earn college credit courses while in high school. These programs afford today’s learners with flexibility to help meet student goals for a successful career pathway.

Craven County Schools is proud to be a Cognia (formerly AdvancED) accredited district.  Through the accreditation process the external review team highlighted several strengths of Craven County Schools which included a strong sense of family, supportive school board, a spirit of collaboration, strong community connections, system and school leadership focused on excellence and alignment of grants with system’s purpose.  Accreditation is important to the citizens of Craven County and the future of our students. Attaining and maintaining our International accreditation ensures a standard of instructional and program quality for our system that is benchmarked with systems in our country and around the world.

We highly value the partnerships with all those invested in Craven County Schools including parents, community members, business partners, and employers. Our stakeholders are the heart of this community and they are truly involved in the success of public education, specifically Craven County Schools. This is evident with their involvement in the creation of the vision for Craven County Schools. Committed members of our community took the charge from the Board of Education to create an inclusive and representative vision for public education in Craven County. This vision will provide a north star, a compass, for the district's work over the next five years:

We envision a public education system that challenges all students as learners and prepares them to imagine and create a successful life; values educators and empowers them to inspire and spark innovation in every student; leads in education and community engagement; and invites all students, their families, and all members of the community to work together to support public education to the benefit of our students, our community, our nation and our world.

We encourage you to visit any of our 26 schools to become a part of our student successes.

We are “Today’s Learners…Tomorrow’s Leaders.”
