The PSAT will be offered to New Bern High School Juniors on Tuesday January 26, 2020. This test is offered primarily for the purpose of allowing 11th grade students to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship and serve as a practice for the SAT. You can learn more about the PSAT/NMSQT at CollegeBoard.org or by using the following link: PSAT/NMSQT OFFICIAL STUDENT GUIDE 2020-21.
Space for this administration is LIMITED TO 40 PARTICIPANTS. At this time, only Juniors are eligible to register; however, the registration form will be opened to sophomores Friday January 8th if space still remains.
Students who wish to sign up will need to complete the following form NO LATER THAN FRIDAY JANUARY 15TH (NO LATE REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED): PSAT REGISTRATION FORM. Please understand that if you already took the PSAT/NMSQT in October, you are NOT eligible to retake it for the 2020-2021 school year as students are only able to take the exam once per school year per College Board.
Additionally, there is a $17 fee to take the test, which must be paid upon arrival the day of the test (cash - exact change - or check - made out to NBHS - only)
On testing day, students should arrive at New Bern High School no later than 7:30 am - those who choose to register for the exam must provide their own transportation unless already scheduled as an AA (Monday & Tuesday) or B (Tuesdays only) cohort student. All Covid-19 Guidelines will be followed including Covid Screening and temperature checks. You will be seated in a room that allows for 6ft of social distancing between you and other students, there will be no more than 25 people in the room per state guidelines, and you will need to bring your own mask to wear throughout the test administration. Please also bring a water bottle as the use of our water fountains is not allowed at this time. Finally, you should bring your own calculator (TI84/TI85(+), Casio, or a simple 4-function calculator will do - no cell phones may be used) and (2) #2 pencils (not mechanical) with good erasers.
